Samsung says its Stablecoin Account is now live in Samsung Wallet, letting eligible US Galaxy owners buy, hold and send USDC on Solana, The Block reports. Samsung puts the compatible installed base at about 82 million devices in the US.
The word to watch is compatible. It counts phones that can run the feature, not people who will use it. Users must be 18 or older, hold a Samsung Account, run Android 13 or later and live outside New York.
Transfers to another Samsung Wallet user or a compatible external wallet carry no Samsung fee. Users can also send money to qualifying bank accounts in more than 60 countries, where recipients may receive local currency and fees vary by destination.
Bastion, a licensed stablecoin custodian, runs the accounts and transfers, and Coinbase holds the USDC as sub-custodian through Coinbase Prime Vault. Samsung says users need no separate crypto app and no private keys.
It is a short step from an existing tie-up, since Samsung widened its Coinbase partnership in October 2025 so Galaxy owners could fund Coinbase accounts with Samsung Pay. Lily Liu, president of the Solana Foundation, said stablecoins have spent a decade proving the technology works.
Samsung announced the feature on 7 October and expected a launch in the last week of October. Payments online and in store are described only as something it expects to explore, subject to local rules.
Missing are the reason for the slip, the fee schedule for bank transfers, and any count of active accounts. Until Samsung publishes one, 82 million remains a measure of reach and not of demand.
