Agility’s new humanoid can lift 50 pounds for 20 hours and recharges in nine minutes

Digit 5 is built to work next to people with no cage around it, and customers have already put down $300 million before a single unit ships.

Agility Robotics unveiled Digit 5 on 15 September, the fifth generation of its general-purpose humanoid and the first the company says is engineered for cooperatively safe work rather than isolated automation cells. The robot stands 5 feet 11 inches, weighs 284 pounds, repeatedly lifts up to 50 pounds, operates for more than 20 hours on a charge and recharges to useful capacity in nine minutes, according to Agility.

The safety pitch is the actual product. Digit 5 uses proprietary algorithms and layered sensors to continuously track people nearby and respond by slowing, stopping or dropping into a seated position, a design meant to let it work alongside warehouse and factory staff without the fencing, light curtains and floor markings that traditional industrial robots require. Agility said the market has already responded with more than $300 million in multi-year orders and a growing customer pipeline across manufacturing, warehousing and logistics.

That order book arrives well ahead of the hardware. Agility expects early access for select operators in the first half of 2027 and general availability for manufacturing, warehouse and distribution customers only by the end of that year, meaning the $300 million is a bet on a roadmap rather than a product anyone has run a full shift with yet.

Digit 5 lands into a Western humanoid field that has gone quiet for weeks while Chinese manufacturers, UBTECH among them, opened factories rated for tens of thousands of units a year. Agility has not said how many units it can build in 2027, what the per-unit price will be, or which named customers have committed to paid deployment rather than pilot testing. Those are the numbers that separate cooperative safety as a shipping feature from cooperative safety as a keynote demo.
