Robinhood will sell Americans perpetual futures at up to 10x, and says they are the first true ones

The product is one offshore exchanges have sold for years; the new part is putting it in the same app as an AI that trades while you sleep.

Robinhood plans to offer crypto perpetual futures to US customers with up to 10x leverage on bitcoin and ether, the company said this week at its HOOD Summit in Houston. Other tokens, including Solana, XRP, Dogecoin and Hyperliquid’s HYPE, will be capped at 3x.

Chief executive Vlad Tenev billed it as America’s first true perps: contracts with no expiry date and profit and loss settled every 15 minutes.

The product will run with support from Bitstamp, the exchange Robinhood owns, and is due in the coming months, The Block reported. Trading fees will be 0.01 percent until the end of 2026, and the app will show a live liquidation price and send risk alerts on open positions.

Perpetuals are the dominant crypto derivative worldwide, but Americans have mostly reached them through offshore venues or through onshore contracts that still carry an expiry date to fit existing rules.

The same event brought two more announcements. Robinhood wants to offer round-the-clock trading in a curated list of US stocks and ETFs, pending regulatory review, and it began rolling out Robinhood Agents, AI tools that can research, build strategies and place trades for customers.

On the agents, Robinhood was blunt. Customers carry all the risk for trades their agents execute, and the company says it does not supervise or audit them.

What it has not given is a launch date for perps, or a clear account of which regulator signs off on a leveraged contract that never expires.

Put 10x leverage in the same app as software that trades while its owner is asleep, and the liquidation alert may end up mattering more than the fee.
