A valuation that doubled in about eight months. Axios Pro reported on 13 October that Bedrock Robotics is raising a Series C of around $600 million at roughly $3.5 billion pre-money.
In February the company raised $270 million at a $1.75 billion valuation, co-led by CapitalG and the Valor Atreides AI Fund. Total funding is already above $350 million.
Bedrock sells autonomy as a retrofit. Its system turns standard 20 to 80 ton excavators into self-driving earth movers, and it can be installed in a single work shift without permanent changes to the machine.
The reported pitch is the backlog of data-centre construction, where there is a great deal of ground to move and, so the argument goes, too few skilled operators to move it. That is a sales story, and it is worth separating from what has been delivered.
The terms are reported, not announced. The secondary coverage found no statement from Bedrock and no word that the round has closed.
The numbers that would justify the price are missing too. There is no revenue figure, no count of machines at work, and no detail on how many customers run the system without a person in the cab.
A funding round at twice the February price says investors want exposure to the idea of autonomous heavy equipment. It does not yet say how much of that idea is working on a real site, at full shift lengths, without supervision.
