BlackRock filed with the SEC on Monday 19 October for the iShares Bitcoin Managed Protect ETF, The Block reported. It would be the firm’s third bitcoin fund filing.
The fund seeks upside exposure to IBIT, BlackRock’s spot bitcoin trust, or similar bitcoin exposure, up to an approximate limit. In return it aims to provide a level of downside protection. IBIT launched in January 2024 and holds more than $65 billion, according to The Block, making it the largest bitcoin ETF.
Bloomberg Intelligence’s James Seyffart counts this as the third filing. The second, the Bitcoin Premium Income ETF, launched in June. BlackRock still offers only bitcoin and ether products.
Funds that cap gains in exchange for a cushion against losses are an established product in equities. This would be the first from the world’s largest bitcoin ETF issuer.
Bitcoin traded near $81,400 on Tuesday, CoinDesk reported, below the $83,000 it touched on Monday.
The timing is notable. The Block reported separately that IBIT took in $665 million in a day, its largest inflow since October 2025. Demand is not the problem BlackRock is solving here.
As reported, the filing does not say how the protection is built, how long it lasts, where the cap sits or what the fund will charge. Those are the numbers that decide whether this is a product or a pitch.
A filing is a request, not an approval. No launch date has been given, and no one has reported how the SEC intends to review it.
