Fal has doubled to $16 billion hosting models it did not build

Revenue is reported at more than $800 million a year, and the margin that would justify the price is not.

Fal has raised $1.3 billion at a $16 billion valuation, double the $8 billion it was reported to be worth in April, TechCrunch reports. Bessemer Venture Partners led the round, with Nvidia, Sound Ventures and T. Rowe Price taking part.

The San Francisco company hosts and runs other people’s AI video, image and audio models. The $1.3 billion is its Series F, announced alongside a Series E, and the company says the two together raised $1.65 billion. That implies roughly $350 million for the Series E, though the figure is arithmetic and not stated.

Bloomberg, which supplied the valuation figures, also reported that Fal passed $800 million in annualised revenue earlier this year. TechCrunch ties the demand to inference, the running of already-trained models, particularly for customers using open-source models.

A year ago the picture was smaller: TechCrunch linked to an October 2025 report of a raise at a $4 billion valuation.

Fal is not alone. Baseten, Fireworks AI and Modal are also growing and raising at higher valuations, according to the article. People familiar with their financials say their gross margins stay thin because buying or leasing compute is expensive.

Fal was founded in 2021 by Burkay Gur, formerly of Coinbase and Oracle, and Gorkem Yurtseven, formerly of Amazon.

The revenue figure is Bloomberg’s and unchecked. Fal’s own margin is the missing number, and its rivals’ thin margins show why it matters. Nor is it stated whether $16 billion is a pre- or post-money figure.
